Spanish hotel chain to use only renewable energy

Spain's Melia hotel chain has been working with Endesa, Spain's largest electric utility, on a plan for the hotel chain to use only renewable energy, such as wind and hydro, and expects to be all-renewable for all of its locations by next year.

The two companies have been ramping up the plans since late 2014, and expect to achieve the landmark of zero greenhouse gas emissions for all of next year. Endesa will supply the hotels' 204 "supply points" with about 200 gigawatt hours of energy produced only by solar, wind and small-scale hydro.

Renewable energy is getting more and more interest and implementation in other fields as well. The airport on the Galapagos Islands is now running on only solar and wind, and Cochin, in China, will have its international airport switched over to all-solar by May of next year.
