Spain has placed three of its small towns on the UN World Tourism Organization's list of the 32 best tourism villages in the world, while eight other countries were named for two each.
The UNWTO list is based on scoring highly on social and environmental sustainability as well as tourism work. The 32 award-winning villages, in18 countries in the Americas, Asia and Africa as well as Europe were evaluated by an independent advisory board on criteria including culture, natural resources and sustainability. They were selected from 136 nominees in 57 countries.
