I've spent a lot of time camping and backpacking over the years, but only once was it in snow, during our ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro. And while it was cold, it was memorable.
We woke to fresh snow covering our tents at the Sheffield Camp (14,800') and from that point to the summit snow was always with us.

Our final camp was also the most remarkable, on the Summit Plateau at the base of the glaciers of the Western Icefield, around 1000 feet from Uhuru Peak. It got very cold that night, down to around -30C, so it was hard to get much sleep.

The following morning we arose before dawn and climbed the rest of the way to the summit (19,341') to observe the sunrise.
