Ski train (yes, ski!) sold out on Eurostar

Much of Europe is blazing in temperatures in the 90s, but some people are obviously already thinking ahead to the winter...perhaps to take their minds off the summer. Eurostar has announced that all tickets on its special direct-to-the-Alps trains from England have been sold out for the February school holiday season...within 4 hours of going on sale!

Almost all seats have also been sold for the New Year's dates and Easter, even at rates that range to hundreds of dollars, more than double the regular rate for non-peak dates.

No despair though: Eurostar has also launched a direct-to-Lyon route that gives access to some of the same resorts, and by local trains to a host of others. These 4 and 4+ hour direct routes are popular with British ski fans because previously the trip to Lyon would have required taking Eurostar to Paris Gare du Nord, and then transferring across Paris to the Gare de Lyon for the rest of the trip. Bad enough when you're NOT carrying skis!
