Seattle's Paine Field gets a long-haul flight

Seattle's second airport, Paine Field, is about to get its first real long-haul commercial flight, an Alaska Airlines route to Honolulu, Hawaii, starting in November.

The airport, which sees hundreds of non-scheduled long-haul flights because it is also the delivery point where new Boeing airliners take off for their new homes, has hosted only regional flights to Alaska, California and Arizona since it started commercial operations in 2019.

Alaska remains the only carrier committed to using Paine Field, which is well north of Seattle, making it convenient for passengers who can avoid a trip across the city to the main airport at SeaTac, south of Seattle. United Airlines and Southwest operated some Payne Field service when it opened, but those routes disappeared during the pandemic.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
