Ryanair has biggest month ever

Ireland-based Ryanair, Europe's largest budget carrier, is flying high on post-pandemic business with its biggest month ever, carrying 18.9 million passengers in August, more than 4 million more than its previous record in August 2019.

That comes out to an average of about 600,000 a day, and would likely have been even higher if there hadn't been a UK air traffic control failure on August 28 which canceled 350 flights for 63,000 passengers. Aside from its infamous add-on fees, Ryanair is noted for fast turnarounds, getting its planes filled and back in the air quickly.

The airline is not the only travel industry giant with big increases this year; Portugal's tourism minister reported last week that visitor numbers for the first half of the year were now up 10% over the same months in pre-pandemic 2019. What's more, the visitors are apparently spending more, with revenue up 40%.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
