Rocky Mountaineer gets new rail tour cars

Intercity rail travel may not be North America's favorite for just getting there, but business is booming for luxury rail tourism, and Canada's Rocky Mountaineer, one of the biggest railtour operators is expanding its fleet.

Already the world's largest privately-operated luxury train company, it's turned to Swiss car builders for seven new double-deck Goldleaf big-window observation cars to add to 19 already in service. The company also has 16 single-deck Silverleaf cars. Four of the new cars will arrive this year, and the rest in 2020.

Each GoldLeaf rail car seats 72 guests. The new cars will be added to the trains traveling on two of Rocky Mountaineer's routes: First Passage to the West, a two-day rail journey between Vancouver and Lake Louise or Banff; and Journey through the Clouds, a two-day rail journey between Vancouver and Jasper.
