Point Wilson Lighthouse, Washington

Early in my road trip in late October, while staying in Port Townsend, I drove a loop through Fort Worden State Park on the northern edge of town. At the tip of a finger of land extending from the northeast corner of the Olympic Peninsula sits Point Wilson Lighthouse, marking the end of the Straits of Juan de Fuca at Admiralty Inlet into Puget Sound. Built in 1879, the light is still one of the most important aids to shipping in the state.

I walked toward the lighthouse passing several people leaving, then had the place to myself. The overcast sky low over the historic buildings created a perfect feeling of isolation & loneliness.
