It won't only be athletes seeking new heights during next summer's Paris Olympics—transit fares will be taking a temporary high jump, too, with increases to cover the period from July 20th to September 8, when the Olympics and Paralympics will be over.
The single-ticket price for the zone that covers Metro, bus, tram and RER service in the city and nearest suburbs will go up from €2.10 for a single ticket to €4, and the ten-ticket 'carnet' will go from €16.90 to €32. Fares to the airports will rise from €11 to €16.
Valérie Pécresse, head of the regional transport network and a former presidential candidate, says the increases reflect added costs for moving 15 million visitors around and that she "refuses to see these additional costs paid by Ile-de-France residents."
City residents who buy monthly passes will not be affected, but weekly passes will jump temporarily from €30 to €70, and single-day unlimited passes will be €16 instead of €8.45. Pécresse suggested that locals who use single tickets buy a supply before July 20.
