Pabineau Waterfalls are located in The Pabineau First Nation, a small Mi’gmaq community about 8 kilometers south of Bathurst, New Brunswick. The area is open to the public.
The Falls are along the Nepisiguit River. The source of the river lies north of the Christmas Mountains, between Mount Carleton and Big Bald Mountain. Several other falls are also along the river as it makes it way to the Bay of Chaleur. The river has lots of lodges alongside it. Outdoor activities include hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and kayaking.
This Pabineau Waterfalls are beautiful rapids with big granite boulders. The area is popular with hikers. During the summer, Atlantic Salmon make their way upstream. The fish almost disappeared for a time due to pollution from the mines. Now though, the river is much cleaner and the Salmon are back after years of restocking. It is really beautiful and an excellent place for photography. If you go, be careful as some of the paths are not clear and the granite boulders can be slippery.
