Oregon Public House, Springfield, Oregon

My husband and I enjoy trying different craft breweries when we travel. One such place we really enjoyed is called the Oregon Public House in Springfield, Oregon. Not only did we enjoy some local brew, but the place is quite unique in itself. A little bit more about that in a bit.

This place was one of the closest places to the Airbnb we were staying at during our visit in September of 2021. As it was the closest, we decided to check it out the first night we were there. We enjoyed it so much that we went back several times while in the area.

Not only do they serve some great-tasting beers, but they also have pretty much any type of food you could possibly want.  Here are just a few of the vendors you can choose from:

Moi Poki Grill – Asian fusion
New Burgers Annex - Burgers
Pizza Cue - Pizza
Squacho’s - Chili, nachos, hot dogs, etc
Pig & Turnip – German food including brats and pretzels
Lani Moku Grill – Hawaiian food favorites
Dazzle Dough / Shield Café – Bakery and deserts
La Granada Latin Kitchen – Authentic Latin food
100 Mile Bakery – Bakery sweets and lunch menu

Public House 4Sadly, the first time we visited we had already had dinner. However, another night we went there to enjoy a meal with our drinks. I had been thinking German food and almost went to the Pig & Turnip, but the smells coming for Lani Moku Grill had me getting some katsu chicken, lol. We will definitely have to go back sometime and have some German food from Pig & Turnip. Yum!

Public House 5-1Ok, now for more info about the Oregon Public House building itself.  The building was the former home of First Christian Church until 2011 when it was purchased by NEDCO, then turned into Sprout (a local food incubator). Eventually, the building was turned into a Public House where it could be a gathering space for the community, which includes beer and food.

I have to say, these two things that will always bring people together .  The only thing they are missing is music.  I read later that they do have live music, but only on certain dates and times. I guess we missed it while we were there. We will have to check out their live music schedule before we go the next time.

What I thought was really cool as you can see in the pictures, is that they kept a lot of the interior as it was when it was still a church. I enjoyed sitting there enjoying our beers while checking out the huge ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. It may look like a regular building on the outside, but inside it is truly beautiful.

As you can also see from the pictures is that the bar is where the church altar used to be, and the loft is still intact with a few chairs. Not sure if it is open to the public, but I can’t see why it wouldn’t be. It just seems like a cool and interesting place to sit and have a beer, cider, or glass of wine. I would love to be able to add a list of some of their beers and such, but they rotate and wouldn't be current for very long. Suffice it to say, they are really good!

They also have a whisky bar for those that are interested. We didn’t get any whiskey, but apparently, there is a whole little bar outside which they call the Whiskey Lab. One thing to note, minors are welcome during all business hours, in all areas, except the Whiskey Lab. They are also dog-friendly if they stay in the patio area. Here is a link to their Dog Policy.

Public House 3As I said earlier, I really enjoyed spending some time at the Public House in Springfield, Oregon, and really hope to visit again one day soon. We had been running around checking out a bunch of covered bridges in the area during the day and was nice to sit and talk about which ones we liked the best.   Here is a link to their website with more information if you want to plan your own visit one day. Have you already been?  If so, please share your thoughts and memories in the comments below.  I would love to hear about your experience. I will add this with a quote that they shared— We love places that bring people together—places where the community can gather to enjoy a variety of foods, enjoy a pint, and enjoy good conversation.
