Old City Hall, Salt Lake City

This building was originally constructed as Salt Lake City Hall, replacing an older smaller structure.  It was built between 1864-66 and was constructed of Utah sandstone (from Red Butte Canyon).  The building was the seat of Salt Lake City's government until 1894.  Between 1894 and 1915 it served as Police headquarters and had a variety of administrative function thereafter.

The Old City Hall building was relocated to Capitol Hill (across from the State Legislature) in 1961 to free up room for a downtown federal office building.  It was then also named "Council Hall".  The building is currently home to the Utah Office of Tourism and the Utah Film Commission.

The building was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975, and seems to be a popular spot for the motorcycle police in Salt Lake City to gather.
