Located just east of Bonners Ferry in northern Idaho is the Moyie River Canyon. The Moyie River originates in British Columbia and flows into Idaho, where it joins the Kootenai River near Bonners Ferry. It is only a few miles from its mouth that the Moyie River tumbles over an 85-foot waterfall as it enters the deepest part of its gorge.
The canyon is spanned by one of the highest bridges in the USA. Built in 1965, the bridge is 1223 feet long and 464 feet high. One of the unusual features of this bridge is that the beams are not riveted; rather they are welded.

Located just prior to the waterfall is the Moyie Dam, completed in 1949, a source of clean hydroelectric power for Bonners Ferry.

There is a scenic viewpoint turnout just off highway 2 on the east side of the bridge, but if you have time there is a small road on the west side of the canyon that takes you past the dam to the reservoir, and provides the best views of the canyon, waterfall and bridge.
