Marriott plans pre-fab hotels

Recent advances in factory-built housing have led to taller and taller buildings assembled from modules, but Marriott is about to take the trend to new heights with the world's tallest pre-fab hotel, the AC Hotel in New York.

The 26-story building with 168 rooms will go up on 6th Avenue just south of Herald Square in Midtown, with workers connecting up bedroom units that are practically ready to move in...literally. They come with electric and plumbing done, the walls painted and already set up with furniture, sheets, pillows, flooring and even toiletries in place. The rooftop bar is also being built off-site, but the foundations and lobby will be on-site build.

Marriott has already built 30 hotels with pre-fab guestrooms, although not fully equipped, and none of them in a high-rise building.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
