March 22, 2019: Yo or Oy at Brooklyn Museum

Outside the Brooklyn Museum, facing Eastern Parkway, a puzzling sculpture appears to ask a question: Am I speaking Spanish or Yiddish?

Depends which way you look, and that's part of the point. Oy/Yo, by Deborah Klass, an artist whose works are often intended to provoke discussion.

At another spot in the museum, another Deborah Kass work tells us, in a near-quote from Louise Bourgeoise, that “A woman has no place in the art world unless she proves over and over again that she won’t be eliminated."

Little danger of that for Deborah Kass!
