Mandela's retreat to open as luxury conference center

The Nelson Mandela Centre for Reconciliation, built as a retreat and meeting place for the former South African president's retirement will soon reopen as a conference center with space for 12 visitors. It will rent for nearly $6000 a night—but that does include all meals, a chef and a butler..

The 5-bedroom + master suite house was built on a game reserve north of Johannesburg, and Mandela used it for several years; it's been closed since his death. Interest in Mandela remains high, both among locals and tourists. Other Mandela sites include Robben Island, where he was jailed for 18 years under apartheid, and the Nelson Mandela National Museum in his former home in Soweto.

MORE details at the Center's website.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
