Label it green: Stationery maker goes solar

Avery Dennison, best known for its Avery labels and other stationery products, is now also Europe's biggest producer of thermodynamic solar power, with the opening of a new solar generating plant at its Belgian factory.

The factory, at Turnhout, will now use 9-10% less gas to operate. Instead of the familiar solar panels to capture the sun's rays and turn them into electricity, the Avery plant uses 2,240 mirrors to reflect the sun's rays to heat a fluid, producing electricity.

The plant can generate a peak of 2.7GWh, and has six storage modules that can hold a capacity of 5 MWh.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
