Hilton ramps up for EV travelers

Hilton hotels will add 20,000 electric vehicle fast-charging stations to 2,000 hotels across its North American brands in a deal it has signed with Tesla.

Tesla will provide the brand-name chargers, but they will work on any North American electric vehicle thanks to deals made in recent months between Tesla and other makers to all comply with Tesla's standard and to adapters that allow older vehicles to charge.

No timeline for completion was listed, but a Hilton spokesperson said that it would take "over a couple of years" to complete. Hilton will arrange for owners of hotels that operate under its brands to work with designated suppliers to get the work done. Installations will begin soon; Hilton already has chargers installed at most of its all-suite brands.

As more and more EVs are on the road, the convenience of charging where you sleep may be a big draw for Hilton brands, and perhaps stir other operators to follow suit. The 20,000 chargers Hilton plans would be the largest single-company network, and would be larger than the 18,000+ chargers found in Los Angeles County, presently the largest group anywhere.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
