Hi-tech hotel room matches your mood

Swissotel is trying out rooms that adapt to your mood and rhythm, aiming at providing a 'holistic wellness' experience, with hi-tech lighting systems, built-in exercise routines and more.

It's already been tested at the Swiss chain's Zurich location, and has now been added to six 'Vitality Rooms' at its Stamford hotel in Singapore, part of a multi-million-dollar renovation of the 1250-room hotel.

The Vitality Rooms are located on high floors for the view, and include Circadian lighting to ward off jet lag. The furniture is designed to be soothing and neutral, the shower and bath offer an 'experience' with controls for lighting scent and water pressure, and there's an in-room yoga station.

For the gym rats, there's a 'wellness wall' with a cable pull, bars and hand weights. There's an interactive display with guided workout routines ranging from easy to challenging, and stretch routines for bedtime. The mini-bar, of course, is stocked with organic good-for-you snacks.

Even if you skip it all and throw your jet-lagged self headfirst into the oversized bed, the room is ready to wake you in the morning by slowly turning up the lights, just like sunrise. Except that sunrise doesn't have a snooze button.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
