Gumbo's Pic of the Day, March 21, 2015: Springtime in Derbyshire

This is the garden at Haddon Hall, in Derbyshire, England, my favorite house of the many dozens I’ve visited.  From our perspective, it benefits greatly from the fact that the house was largely ignored over the centuries by the owner family, who preferred living in others of their houses and never updated it to reflect fashions of the times.  So what we have to visit now is an intact example of it’s time.

But the garden is the thing today and it’s in England, land of world-class gardeners, of whom I’ve known a few.  To see a bit more of the house, look here.
