Golden Gate Park, San Francisco: Where Gumbo Was (#145)

Congratulations to Port Moresby for recognizing that Gumbo had made a visit to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

Golden Gate Park stretches 3 miles from the Haight-Ashbury section of S.F. all the way to the Pacific Ocean. Its development was started in 1860 as impetus to continue the urban development of San Francisco westward from it borders at the time. The park was designed by John McLaren.

Gumbo's visit centered around the De Young Museum of Art. The museum opened originally in 1921, and its current building was opened in 2005.

Near the De Young is the Japanese Tea Garden.

And to the west of the Tea Garden is Slow Lake where Gumbo found the Chinese Pavilion:

Golden Gate Park is huge (20 % larger than Central Park in NYC), so you can't see it all in one visit. But it the perfect place to go back to whenever you get the chance.
