Germany's €9 summer travel bargain

Germany has a travel bargain coming up this summer, a €9 per month transit pass for local and regional transit that will be available to visitors as well as the commuters it's aimed at as part of a financial relief package for rising cost-of-living.

The ticket, which will be available through Deutsche Bahn's Navigator app and at ticket counters, still needs final approval by the Bundestag, but is promised to go into effect in June for three months. Details are being ironed out, but it appears that the ticket will be usable across the country and not limited to one city's area.

Commuters who have already paid for full-price transit subscriptions will receive refunds for the difference, but exactly how that will work will be up to the individual transport companies. Total cost of the program, to be paid by the federal government, will be about €2.5 billion

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
