Eurail: Passes get simpler and cheaper

The Eurailpass system that once meant cheap and carefree rail travel across Europe is trying to get that vibe back with a new and simpler list of passes and some new price incentives.

The passes, which provide unlimited rail travel for a specific period, are now down to a choice of either an all-of-Europe Global Pass covering 31 countries or a single-country pass. Those replace the 'select' passes that required picking specific packages of countries.

Prices for the Global Pass have also been trimmed; in recent years most travelers could do better buying point-to-point tickets unless they had really rail-heavy itineraries; the new charts may reverse that trend. Passes can be bought for periods as short as three days.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
