Disney announced that their Shanghai Disney Resort will open in June, it's first park in mainland China. Disney also stated it will be a different park, one that reflects China's own culture too. Disney chairman and chief executive Robert Iger said in a statement, "When it opens in June, Shanghai Disney resort will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class destination that is authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese."
Shanghai Disney is a $5.5 billion joint venture between Disney and China's state-backed Shanghai Shendi Group with Disney owning a 70% stake in the management company that will run it. It was supposed to open late last year, but was delayed.
