Brightline, the semi-high-speed passenger rail system that's slowly inching its way north from Miami toward Orlando and eventually Tampa, has again postponed its opening date for service to Orlando.
The 129-mile extension from West Palm Beach to Cocoa, Florida, near Orlando, is now slated to finish construction early next year, not by the end of this year. Once it reaches that stage, it will still need testing to meet federal standards.
On the other hand, the railroad says, it has now finalized the route of the 90-mile extension that will link Orlando with Tampa on the west coast, with two intermediate stops serving clusters of theme parks, including Disney World. It also says that its revenues are up 147% from 2019, and that two new intermediates stations on its original routes, Aventura and Boca Raton, will open this fall.
