Cunard's Queen Mary 2, flagship of the fleet, is getting a 3-week refit in June with new furnishings and design references to the original Queen Mary's art deco fittings. The refit also includes a commissioned collection of photos of Cunard's historic headquarters in Liverpool, Southampton and New York.
The photographs by Paul Ward, a renowned architectural photographer, will hang in public spaces and staterooms on the ship. Ward spent a month researching and photographing the buildings.
The Liverpool Cunard building, a century old this year, is now part of Liverpool's UNESCO World Heritage site at Pier Head on the Mersey. In Southampton, South Western House, the company's former headquarters, is a historic landmark for both its architectural and historic value. In New York, Cunard's building at 25 Broadway is known especially for its lobby and ticketing office, a New York City landmark since 1995.
The New York building's lobby is featured in the Paul Ward photo above.
