As the summer of not-sailing continues and governments are starting to issue guidance for when cruising resumes, two cruise lines have clubbed together and hired a panel of experts to help them get ready to meet new rules and new realities.
Norwegian Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean have announced a "Healthy Sail Panel," which includes health experts and former government science and health officials to help them develop procedures and standards that will satisfy new regulations. The panel includes as co-chairs a former FDA commissioner and a former secretary of Health and Human Services. Other members include a former head of CDC and the Dean of the Cornell University hotel school.
The panel has four working groups looking at potential health screening measures, onboard environmental issues, healthcare on ships and one on issues with destination ports.
The two companies operate a number of other brands; NCL is parent to Oceania and Regent Seven Seas while RC's brands include Celebrity, Azamara, Silversea and TUI Cruises.
