Briana DeSanctis waded into the Pacific Ocean at Point Reyes, California Sunday, marking the end of her two-year hike across the U.S., following the American Discovery Trail--and becoming the first woman to do it solo.
Her journey started at the trail's eastern end at Cape Henlopen, Delaware, and included both of the alternate routes the trail splits into in the middle of the country. The route crosses 16 states on the way to Point Reyes. It's one of the longest recognized trails in the U.S., and can also be completed on horseback.

Along the way, DeSanctis told USA Today, many people offered her food, water, a place to stay and even a wedding invitation.“Everyone that you meet takes you in and shows you a little part of their world. Everybody that I've met has been really amazing.”
