China gets world's highest hotel

The J Hotel Shanghai Tower opened last month with an undisputed claim to be the world's highest hotel, although not its tallest.

The new hotel has 165 rooms and 34 suites on the top floors of the 2,000-foot high Shanghai Tower, with rates starting at about $557 per night, with the second-best suite going for over $10,000 per night. The best suite, with more floor area than most private homes, has no published price tag.

The highest versus tallest question puts the hotel behind Dubai's Gevora Hotel, which claims the tallest title at 1,168 feet in a building that is all hotel, all 75 floors of it.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
