Riga's Central Market, seen above in a night view from the tower of St Peter's Church, claims to be Europe's largest indoor market.
We'll be back later to explore the market itself; for the moment it's enough to have a glance at the five huge halls that house the market. They were built starting in 1922, partly reusing materials, including the upper roofs, from World War I Zeppelin hangars.
The market replaced an outdoor market that had been operating along the nearby riverbank for nearly four centuries.
