Lie-flat seats in business or first-class are usually aimed at passengers on long-haul flights, but at least for a while, they are available on British Airways flights from London to cities as near as Amsterdam and Paris, although there's barely time on those one-hour flights to sit, much less lie down.
The odd situation is a side-effect of Covid-19's disruption of air traffic; those routes are normally flown by smaller planes such as the 737 or A320, but as hopes for long-haul flights are rising, airlines need to keep pilots up-to-date on the larger planes as well.
For business-class passengers, that can mean that instead of a regular seat with a few more inches of space, they're on a 787 or 777, lying in the lap of luxury.
