Brussels Airport will soon be adjusting its airport landing and use charges to discourage airlines from using older, noisier and more polluting planes and from flying short distances. The new rules take effect April 1.
The Belgian cabinet made the decision last week, mandating a 25% cut in fees for long-distance daytime flights by modern planes, while adding up to 40% more for flights in early morning or at night, and for flights under 500 kilometres. The goal is not only greener operations, but a quieter time for airport neighbors.
The government is also allocating €2.7 million to the operating authority to fund testing for greener and quieter flights.
