Another 'just for thrills' bridge opens

Germany has a new adventure bridge, designed for those with strong stomachs and a taste for semi-adventurous experiences with a new pedestrian bridge that stretches 665 metres across a valley near Willingen in northern Hesse.

It's not the distance, of course (and there's a story to that, too!) but the height that draws the customers. There's a view, as well, over low mountains and valley nature reserves... But the view is looking down. 100 metres down.

The narrow bridge, which is said to have a capacity of 750 visitors at a time (none of whom will ever be this reporter), opened July 1st. Originally it planned to claim the title of 'world's longest pedestrian suspension bridge,' that title was claimed last year by Sky Bridge 721 in Czechia... no surprise that it is 721 metres long. So, the Willingen bridge is now advertised as the  "longest free-hanging suspension bridge in the world without support cables." Oh.

The best part of every trip is realizing that it has upset your expectations
