Amsterdam's continuing attempts to clean up what it considers the worst aspects of overtourism—rowdy partyers in search of cheap thrills—has led to a cyber-savvy 'dis-invite' for young British men seen as the worst offenders.
The city has set digital markers on search engines so that queries from the UK for items like 'stag party Amsterdam' or 'pub crawl Amsterdam' or even 'cheap hotel Amsterdam' will include links to its two new English-language videos.
The two videos, which have drawn some heated response from British viewers and Amsterdamers, show documentary-style images of drunken partyers being arrested, fingerprinted and jailed, or of a drug user passed out in a park and rescued by an ambulance crew. Both videos end with the message that if you're coming to Amsterdam for a 'messy night' or to take drugs, 'STAY AWAY.'
