Alberta Teachers Centennial Sculpture, Edmonton

When I visited Edmonton last spring, I made a point of going to its nice Provincial Legislative grounds.  As you might expect, there's a lot of art on the grounds, but this unusual piece caught my eye and inspired me to do a little research.

The piece was created by Richard Tosczak and Jacob Dutton and is known as "The Garden".  The name refers to the ability of teachers to inspire and nurture their students much like someone tending a garden.  As with any garden, seeds can germinate into very different plants.

The sculpture depicts seven student faces looking outward, each about 14 ft tall, together forming a tree.  It's crafted of steel and bronze and was dedicated at a 2018 World Teachers’ Day event in honor of the Association’s 100th anniversary, held on the legislative grounds.
