My wife and I enjoyed the week we spent at Katmai National Park, wildlife watching and especially keeping an eye out for Alaska Brown Bears.
We came across this mother bear and her two cubs during one of our outings. They were just walking beside the shore and passed close to where we were quietly observing them from.
I found it interesting that the two cubs looked nothing alike. Our guide explained that often the female bears mate with more than one male -- hence the mixed appearance to their cubs.
They caught our scent and mom got up on her hind legs to assess the threat level....
We were obviously not a threat, so they just continued on their way. But it provided us with a wonderful memory of our visit to Katmai.
