A patent's been filed for an airplane phone charger that would draw its power not from the plane's electrical system, but from thin-film solar panels built into the window shade.
The device idea comes from a company well- known in the aircraft interior market, B/E Aerospace, but it's still in development. Of course, some planes, same technology could be applied to the glass itself.
While it would be of most benefit to the passenger with the window seat, the company says it could potentially produce enough power to share with the whole flight.
