Unclaimed Baggage, the company that is the home of last resort (and final sale) for unclaimed airline luggage for America’s airlines, is taking a new tactic to drum up interest in its business: An online and in-person auction of unopened suitcases.
Usually, the company’s staff opens the suitcases as they arrive and sorts good for sale, donation or destruction, depending on type and condition. But now, on June 13, they’re skipping those steps for an auction.
“We always say, ‘you never know what you’ll find,’ and our Unclaimed Auction adds another layer to that tagline,” said Bryan Owens, owner of Unclaimed Baggage. “The event reveals what our baggage openers see every day in unclaimed luggage, from the unique to the high-end to the odd.”
Twenty suitcases will be up for auction, with several new ones each hour or so throughout the day. Bidders will have to choose based on first impressions alone because each piece is sold as is—no previewing or sorting. The auctions will be live from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT at the store and online at unclaimedbaggage.com
