I enjoy finding community sites that you may not hear about unless you visit. Paducah, Kentucky, a welcoming and picturesque city of about 30,000, has an attraction you won’t want to miss.
Wall to Wall is a floodwall—each painted with a mural depicting local history.
The murals, painted by Robert Dafford and the Dafford Murals Team, feature stunning artwork depicting Paducah’s connection to creativity.
Paducah is one of ten UNESCO Creative Cities in the U.S. The others are Austin, Santa Fe, Tucson, Seattle, New Orleans, Kansas City, Iowa City, San Antonio and Detroit.
“The location of this particular section was ideally chosen as the River Discovery Center (in the oldest standing building in downtown Paducah), and the Seamen’s Church Institute, Center for Maritime Education, is right across the street,” according to the website. “Paducah’s original establishment at the confluence of the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers remains a vital part of the city’s success and productivity.”
Bronze interpretive panels in front of each mural provide information for self-guided tours. Guided tours are offered by request.
These works of art show the talent of mural painters, and the history and creativity of Paducah.
