UK theme park named ‘World’s Best’

The Pleasure Beach Resort in Blackpool, England has been crowned as “best of the best” in the Park World Excellence Awards—at least for the part of the world the awards cover.

Like the U.S. baseball World Series, the awards have carved out their own version of ‘world,’ in this case Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Pleasure Beach Resort has been in operation since 1896, but it clearly hasn’t rested on its 130-year-old laurels; it also won ‘best ride of the year’ for its new Aviktas ride, which swings riders 138 feet into the air on a rotating pendulum. If that makes you a bit nauseous to think about, you’re not alone.

The park also has the UK’s only Nickelodeon land and The Big One, a hypercoaster that once held the record as the tallest and steepest in the world.

The awards, which started in 2018, also included categories for best waterpark, best green initiative and best live entertainment.
