This year marks the 100th anniversary of Route 66, the fabled ‘Mother Road’ of America’s car culture, and Tulsa, Oklahoma is planning to celebrate the occasion with a record-breaking parade of classic cars.
The event is set for May 30 under the name Capital Cruise—Tulsa calls it self the Capital of Route 66—and a Guinness World Records ‘adjudicator’ will be on hand to verify if the record for a classic car parade has been broken.
The current record of 2,491 was set in 2017 in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Tulsa organizers have set a goal of 3,000. But lest you think that’s an over-reach, consider that as time goes on more cars become classic; to enter, cars must be earlier than 1996. That’s right. 1996 is now 30 years ago, and the cars are officially classic.
