Tulips, Fringed and Fluffy

Every Spring, at just about the time the magnolias and cherry trees are in bloom, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden also sets out banks of tulips in beds alongside the still-dormant lily ponds.

There are plenty to choose from, and they draw quite a crowd, but not all tulips are created equal. I have a weakness for the fringed and the fluffy…

Some of the varieties have differences so subtle it’s hard to be sure which is which, but these violet beauties stand on their own, as do the peachy golds.

Many shades of pinks and reds, some subtle and some quite bold…

Fringed and fluffy… sometimes they come in one package…

And, saved for last, the whitest of the whites…
