Traffic box art is a popular public art program in Boise which transforms ordinary traffic signal control boxes into colorful structures featuring original art by local artists. The idea is to provide beautification of urban neighborhoods, while deterring graffiti.

The Traffic Box Art program was established in 2009 and has exhibited impressive growth, currently with about 220 wrapped boxes throughout Boise. The wraps are designed to fit the box’s surfaces precisely, covering all sides and giving it a “finished look”.

This post contains an example of one box close to the State Capitol building. I rather like the effect! I’ll keep a lookout for them the next time I’m in Boise.
