Which Is The Right Month To Visit Delhi?

Out of the numerous Mughal cities, Delhi is one of the very few destinations, which has managed to keep its glory and heritage intact without interfering with its global development. Starting from Parliament of India, malls, skyscrapers and other modern structures on one side, Delhi has managed to keep its ancient markets, Red Fort, mosques, havelis and other structures, intact.

Delhi is located in the middle of a landform, which means, the union territory has land on all four sides. This historic land has become a concrete jungle, leading to the increase in temperature, in general. From historic holy spots to modern infrastructure, Delhi has everything in its boundary and it is important to choose the right time to visit this beauty.

Best Time To Visit Delhi

The best time to visit Delhi is from October to March. During this time, the temperature ranges between 25 and 15 degree C. If you want to avoid very cold climate, skip December and January. This is the right time to visit to enjoy natural beauty, as vegetation will be thriving during this season. A road trip to Agra or surrounding regions would be easier and pleasing during this season. During December and January, the temperature can go as low as 5 degree C. Delhi can be extremely hot or extremely cold during a year.

Summer in Delhi

Summer starts in April and ends in July. The climate is hot and humid. Dehydration is very common and it is the worst time to visit Delhi. Malls of Delhi organize many events to beat heat like artificial ice skating, snow world and others. Locals move to Darjeeling, Shimla and other nearby hill stations to get out of the heat. Although dry and humid, sightseeing spots will be at prime beauty during evening. People enjoy relaxing in gardens and parks during this season.

Monsoon Season

Monsoon starts in July and ends in September. It is the lean tourism season of Delhi. Even luxury trains like Palace on Wheels do not operate during this season. The land will be wet and humid making sightseeing worse. Winter is however the time of numerous religious celebrations. If you are looking to enjoy the culture of the land and get a good deal in hotels and tickets, monsoon is the right time.

Winter In Delhi

Tourism season starts during winter. However, winter as a whole is not a desirable season. Winter is very cold and dry. October and November would be pleasing and beautiful. As winter get to the peak, it becomes hard to explore Delhi. You might have to restrict yourself to heritage walks, malls, holy spots and others. The late winter season is famous for its climatic beauty and richness in terms of festivals and fairs like Surajkund Fair, which is famous for cultural performances, handloom shopping, cuisine and others. This is also the right time to enjoy many delicacies in Delhi.

No matter when you visit, accessing Delhi is always easier. It has a very busy international airport, which connects numerous international destinations with India. Within the country, almost all the major cities are connected with Delhi via railways, airways or roadways.

One aspect you do not mention is the air pollution in Delhi, which can be absolutely atrocious and tends to be especially bad in the winter. I would suggest March - by the beginning of spring the air quality generally improves a bit (although the temperatures also rise quickly at that time).
