Much of the world is buzzing over the football World Cup, but in 17 countries around the globe, a very special coffee cup is the center of attention—the Julius Meinl Barista Cup, sponsored by the famed Vienna coffee roaster.
Baristas working in cafés, restaurants and hotels serving Julius Meinl coffee have been invited to apply; selected candidates will compete at a national level, and the national winners will compete in Vienna in a Grand Finale in September.
Contests will be held in Austria, Bosnia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, the UAE, the USA, Serbia, Germany, Slovenia, China and Hungary.
At each level, panels of judges will sample and rate three categories: espresso, cappuccino and a signature drink. All contestants will work with the same coffee, Meinl’s Gloriette Gold blend.
The top scorer in each category in the Grand Finale will win an all-expenses trip to a coffee country of origin.
