The Missionaries of Charity, Kolkata

It’s that time of the year again, albeit with a slight change in circumstances too long-winded to elaborate on here, when I find myself in my hometown, Kolkata. Given a somewhat longer vacation almost resembling a sabbatical, I explored the city at length, only to realise that I had never yet visited Kolkata’s best known piece of modern history and heritage—the Missionaries of Charity.

The little Albanian nun lovingly called Mother Teresa, as she was better known as instead of the mouthful that is ‘Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu’, left a legacy that was or is or will be never matched in the journey of human civilisation. One can learn about her in books and magazines but to see the living proof of her work is something else entirely, and a visit here is a must, perhaps at the very outset of one’s trip.

I was happy to have at least fulfilled this last point, before diving deep into all the other heady experiences that the City of Joy has to offer.
