The Marrakech Hotel, Tangier

Wandering in Tangier’s Old Medina, we came upon what didn’t at first look like a hotel; only its sign suggested it, and we had seen no other hotels within the medina—but I glanced through the door, and was then invited to come in and look.

It felt like a giant step into the past, although, it turns out, it’s a fully operating hotel, listed on all the booking sites, and actually a larger building than it appears from its entryway.

It’s been welcoming guests since 1881, almost 145 years.
