In Gloucester, England the shopping streets are a mixture of recent and ancient, which sometimes applies to individual businesses as well. That certainly applies to G. A. Baker & Son, Jewellers and its chiming clock, which rings five bells on each quarter hour.

The storefront on Southgate Street and the clock date to the beginning of the 20th century, but Baker has been trading there since 1741, most recently owned by eight generations of a family named Mann. Since 1862, they’ve held appointment as watchmaker to the Admiralty.

In a tribute to the U.K.’s multiple heritages, Father Time, the central bell-ringer, is surrounded by an Irishman, an Englishman, a Scotsman and a Welsh woman.
