The Alpine Chef, Fredericksburg, Virginia

Fredericksburg Train Station serves nearly 120,000 riders annually in the city’s historic downtown, connecting commuters with Richmond and Washington, D.C.

Amtrak runs six trains through the station daily.

But I have another story to tell here. This evening, I am going to the Alpine Chef Restaurant, which is housed in the station’s interior.

Several toddlers are gathered for a special child’s event, judging by the decorations, photo-taking, and smiling faces. After reading other advertisements and the menu, I noticed this is a hub for activity in this community of 28,000.

Chef Jannec Hornig, born, raised, and educated in Berlin, Germany, at the Sylter Hof Berlin, toured Europe to widen his culinary experience.

When he came to the United States, he met his wife, Katherine, an Irish American who had grown up in Ireland before moving to the United States. They have been in business for 30 years.

The couple, with their team Maribel Romero and Joe Henneberry, draws culinary influences from Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and other countries. Their genius creates delicious meals, and the service leaves a lasting positive impression.

Bratwurst, Bauernwurst, Weisswurst, Sauerkraut, and the culinary delights go on. We begin with a giant pretzel to share, followed by our meal choices, including sides of German Potato Salad, Bratkartoffeln, Bread dumplings, and Potato Pancakes with Sour Cream or homemade Applesauce.

A feast!

After dinner, we slowly return to the hotel and discuss our day in this delightful city. Tomorrow will bring more adventures and memories to make.

Alpine Chef is horrible. Bought a Black Forest cake there for my birthday & it was disgusting. The cake was grey covered in masses of cream with a couple of cherries thrown on it. Plus their food is bland & served family style which is cold. Avoid the disappointment.
