The Albert Cuyp Market is Amsterdam’s largest and most popular outdoor street market, and one of the largest daytime markets in Europe. Albert Cuyp is the name of a famous Dutch landscape painter from the Dutch “Golden Age”. The Market originated in 1905 and has maintained a loyal following, being frequented by locals, tourists, and students. The streets of the market are frequently crowded because people come for the good food, people-watching, and “gezelligheid” (cozy, lively atmosphere).

The market has between 250-300 stalls and is best known for its fresh fruit and vegetables, sold at prices which generally are cheaper than in supermarkets…

An assortment of wild and cultivated mushrooms are for sale….

Baked goods….

Cheese, fish, meat and flowers.

There are many street food vendors featuring a variety of domestic and international foods.

Clothes, souvenirs, fabrics, spices, chocolates and more are available.

You can rent a bike, or buy some marijuana if you want it (it’s Amsterdam after all)….

There is even a sporting goods store with a street-side statue of Iron Mike Tyson. And a lot of other items for sale beyond the scope of this blog.

The market is located on Albert Cuypstraat in the De Pijp neighborhood of Amsterdam. The market runs Monday to Saturday, typically 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM, and is closed on Sunday. Stalls might close early if the weather is bad.
Prices are generally fixed, but bargaining is possible for some items.
Enjoy your visit to the market! We did.
